Outstanding Features Bendinat is well-known both on a national and international basis for its golf course and for its castle. In recent years, Bendinat has made a name for itself as being one of the most exclusive zones of the island, such as Son Vida, Nova Santa Ponsa and Puerto de Andratx. The area has been magnificently enhanced by the presence of the golf club called Golf Bendinat, which is famous both nationally and internationally. The story or legend says that King Jaime I having camped on the island of Mallorca after landing with the intention of conquesting it, he had a supper of bread soup, olives and garlic, and once finished he said, ‘Bé hem dina’t (in the Catalonian language, that means 'we have had a good supper' although other theories point to the toponomy as being of Arabian origin because 'Ben' means 'son of' in this language). The Marquis of the 'romana' built a castle of neo-gothic style in the XIX century in the mountain area known as Castillo de Bendinat imitating other central European castles of the time.
